Rainbow Six
Goblingee's Rainbow Six Revival.
Stage 4 Kick some ass
So, we have sat through a briefing, checked the news reports, selected and kitted out our team, planned the mission to the finest detail, hell we have been playing the game for 15 minutes already and have not killed anyone yet. Time to go.
The action phase is the bit that most people see as “the game”, and this unfortunately may be what has killed off the planning and team selection phases in the R6 series. Although I suspect that there is more to it than that although I will not be going into it right now.
The action phase begins in our chosen insertion point as you would expect. The key things to note at this point are at the bottom of the screen.
From left to right we have; the overview of the map, this will show a line pointing toward your next waypoint. You can zoom in and out of this map using whatever keys you have chosen in your binding.
Weapon stats, this shows the current weapon, with how many rounds and magazines you have along with your rate of fire to the left and other kit bellow.
Operatives, this shows your current team with operatives and their health/stamina.
Teams, on the far right is the team panel, this shows the other teams, that they are doing and their individuals health.
You can switch between teams during the mission and give simple commands such as, team hold, snipers free (this is only relevant when you have a team sniping). All teams will carry out the mission as per your plan, they will move from waypoint to waypoint and stop for any special order that you gave during the planning phase. They will clear and frag/flash any room that you have told them to do, they will escort hostages to extraction and they will await your go codes at key points.
As an individual it is very important to understand the risk involved in your mission and the differences between this and the newer games. If you get shot one of two things will happen, 1 you will die, 2 you will be injured and spent the rest of the mission limping.
If you die, unless you go back to the beginning of the mission then that operative will remain dead, hard luck, you should have planned better in the 1st place. If you are injured then your operative will remain injured for the next mission and you may not be able to use them while they recover. This is a good thing as they will more than likely be ready for the following mission. There are no miracle cures or injections in this game. If you are shot in the leg then you are shot in the leg and your buddy will not come and give you an injection that will make it all better, God I love this game.
There are a few different action types in the game.
There are missions that are based on all out assault, some on stealth where it will be essential to use sd weapons, other mission where you want to go in hard and fast with noisy loud grenades and guns and some missions where you will take 1 operative with no weapon, just light outfit and a HBS and go sneaking around, placing bugs and hacking computers without being spotted, don’t forget to hack those security systems as even terrorists use cctv…
There are 3 levels of difficulty to the campaign.
Recruit, this is the easy level.
Veteran, Medium (getting difficult)
Elite, You really have to think about your planning and be very patient and prepared to go back and tweak plans and die lots.
After completing the action phase it is essential that you sit back and give yourself a pat on the back, say “ I did that, it was my plan, I selected the team, I made the plan and I carried out the mission, well done me”
So, does this game still deserve to live, I say yes because this game gave us something, it gave the gamer the sense that somebody out there in the game development world thought that there was more to the average gamer than a lonely automaton sitting in front of a machine needing to be given direction rather than an open world in which to play. Single player corridor maps are not an evolution in gaming, Rainbow Six was in a league of it’s own and indeed a genre of it’s own. Rainbow Six was the original Tactical shooter, a genre which in my opinion died after Raven Shield. This game along with Rogue Spear and Raven Shield need to be played.
Any of you that are up for it, message me, join our steam group BacK2GraW and let’s get it on.
Multiplayer and more R6 jibber jabber from me Goblingee to follow. Stay tuned guys and girls, have fun and I hope to see you in game.
