Ground Branch

I am well and truely behind this all the way.

So what exactly is Ground Branch?

Basically it's based on the real life subsection of the Special Activities Division of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The Special Activities Division typically carries out deniable covert operations on foreign soil and often goes into a situation before anyone else, before Special Forces, before the SEALs, before DevGru; SAD Ground Branch is the true tip of the spear. SAD Ground Branch operatives are mainly recruited from Army Special Forces or CAG units and are experts in field craft, surveillance, small arms, hostage rescue and Close Quarters Battle.

Being a CIA unit Ground Branch has a free hand to get the job done and as such will take measures which military units cannot. There are laws in war and Ground Branch tears those pages out of the book when necessary. They are the gunslingers of modern day warfare and are not a direct combat unit but

instead rely on stealth and hit and run tactics. This means their operational manners may be deemed questionable by some at times. Ground Branch isn’t sent in to be an ambassador of good will, they are sent in to get very specific results.

The idea of the game play is to make it look and feel as real as possible, no 3rd person or mad, trippy, out of body cover system which allows you to see round corners or over obstacles without ever having to actually take a look. The ethos of Black Foot Studios is sound from a gamers point of view "don't build a community around a game, build the game around the community" This is a quote that will live with me for as long as I play games. For a developer to have this much interest in what their target audience think is AWESOME. Yes Black Foot Studios, we are loving your attitude.

BlackFoot Studios is a small "high speed, low drag" independent studio whose goal is to fill a void in the style of games many would call ‘Classic’ tactical squad based gaming; As well as develop gaming products that cater to the “thinking gamers” of the tactical first person shooter genre. The studio was founded with very specific principals on game and level design that aims to appeal to the realistic ‘Classic’ tactical oriented audience, while still maintaining an incredibly fun and non-frustrating experience.

With the Studio's talent for creating challenging realism while maintaining fun game play, gamers will find themselves in an immersive virtual world of military Special Operations, with never before presented perspectives and gameplay.

To be honest though, should we really be surprised that these guys are building the game that they are, rather than trying to compete with the likes of COD which seems to be the benchmark for most of the big dev companies? Not really and the reason is that Black Foot Studios is headed up by none other than John Sonedecker, one of the guys that brought us the original Ghost Recon. For those of you that have never played it, take it from me Goblingee that this was one of if not the best FPS tactical shooter ever made, for it's time. I would compare it only to the original Rainbow Six games up to and including Raven Shield (released by UBI but predominantly built by Redstorm before the Franchise was taken over by UBIsoft), therefore made by the same guys. With this in mind it is well worth considering those games built on and for modern PC systems. Now ask yourself: "How soon can We, the community get this game out there?"

A key feature of the Ground Branch game is the first person view, it is getting rare now that games like this are not pandering to the console market and are being developed in the FPS mode rather than TPS, in addition to this, Black Foot Studios are developing full body awareness within the game, this means that you will be able to see your own arms and legs if you really want to and will give a more realistic feel to the motion and movement aspects of the gameplay. In addition to this we are being given a free look feature to allow us to see what is going on arround us while on the move. More info on the features of Ground Branch chan be found on the Ground Branch website here http://www.groundbranch.com/features/ This is well worth a read.

Another thing I love about this game idea is that it is moving back to fully open maps with planning capability and fluid movement with a massive focus on strategy and tactics as should be the case with any "Tactical Shooter".

Until I went to the Ground Branch website, I had never really considered the term  NORG, "what the hell are you talking about?" I hear you silently scream. Well, "NORG stands for Natural Order of Realistic Gameplay and is, to us, a revolutionary approach to game design that utilizes critical unshakable facts to drive game development and design. Titles are constructed from the ground up rather than the traditional inside-out method. A design methodology is implemented that maintains immersive gaming while promoting a shorter build cycle with reduced back track development or need to artificially balance the game". and if you dont believe me then go and read more about it here http://www.groundbranch.com/norg/

I would advise you to go subscribe to Black Foot Studios on YouTube here, check out the Ground Branch forum here and get behind this game.

Thanks for reading guys, tune in for more information in the future and let's get this done.
